How Do You Grow COFFEE?

HOW TO GROW COFFEE
Lots of people grow various coffees.
Lots of people grow trees.
Many enjoy the fruit from the tree,
but how can it be that coffee from grow from a tree?

Maybe you have heard that coffee grows from a tree or maybe you were wondering just how it grows. Well, today I'm am going to explain to you just how you could grow a coffee tree.

The Soil Type
Coffee grows best in a soil that can take a lot of humidity. It does not do well in a soil that has a lot of ashy texture to it, but one that is more like clay. The soil in Jamaica is really much of a clay mixture. This is the reason why coffee grows well there. The type of soil is different within the different elevations of a mountain. This is the reason why the coffee flavoring that you get at the end differs as much as the soil. Usually the more humid the soil can get and still withstand the moisture the better the flavorng of the coffee.

What part of the Coffee Plant Do You Plant?
You can buy a whole potted tree from a Greenhouse Store that is in one of the southern states of the United States. Then, you can lay clay soil down. After that, you would need to make sure the soil is rich. Thus you could plant a whole potted tree.

You can buy seedlings from a store or you can even plant the green cherry part of a coffee bean.

How do you plant coffee seedlings?
  1. First thing is coffee trees do best in a place where it has lots of room to grow and where it is hot and humid year round. They also need lots of light and air. Coffee trees just love water and soak up plenty of it. Therefore, you might want to really think about if the place that you are trying to plant the coffee tree in has a wet tropical type of climate.
  2. You could supplement the light during the winter with flourescent light bulbs and heat lamps, but please think about the air temperature around the plant and how cold it might get.
  3. So, finally, you have the perfect condition to plant your coffee tree in. Take the seedling out of it's pocket while holding as close to the roots as you can.
  4. Dig about a 1 inch deep whole in the ground.
  5. Push the seedling down into the ground and cover the roots up.
  6. Make sure you keep on checking on it and water it plenty.
  7. Feed it with nutrients once every two weeks.
  8. It takes about 4 years to grow your first coffee bean. Therefore, use your patience.
  9. Enjoy your coffee beans and the blossoms that come with it.

DUNKIN DONUTS Frozen Coffee Drink NUTRITION

Dunkin Donuts is a favorite place to stop at for men, kids, and women alike. They have some great tasting coffees and wonderful tasting donuts. They especially are famous for how quick you can stop in and get them. For they are certainly “on the go.” They have a couple new drinks out for the summer which have a very cool to the touch taste and feel. They have several different frozen coffee drinks including the Oreo Coolatta Coffee.

What really is in the plain frozen coffee drink. How nutritious is it? Would it hurt if I drank it? Does it really have real coffee in it? Well, once again I have done the research and here is what you need to know.

While researching I found it especially helpful that, unlike McDonald’s, Dunkin Donuts has its own buttons on its website where you could easily switch the size of the drink to see the different nutritional details for each unique size. The small has 460 calories. The medium has 660 calories and the Large has 860 calories. I am a fan of portion control, but let’s imagine a woman between the age of 31-50 year old drinks 2 large Frozen Coffee drinks a day. That person would have taken in 1,720 calories out of a 1,800 calorie diet. That means that there would just be enough calories left for one nice and sweet golden delicious apple. Let’s now imagine a 31-50 year old male drinks 2 Larges in one day they would have drank 1720 calories of their 2400 (these are what is recommended using the USDA guidelines). They would just have enough calories left for a glass of milk and a nice salad for the whole day.

According to the small nutritional facts the small has 240 out of the 460 calories out of fat, 90 mg of cholesterol, and 47 g of sugar. Though all of this is true, it has 3 g of protein, 15% of Vitamin A, 2% of vitamin C, and 0 grams of dietary fiber.

What is in it?

·        Frozen Coffee Coolatta Base

·        Light Cream

·        Whipped Cream

·        Sorbitan Monostearate, Artificial Flavor, Carrageenan, Mixed Tocopherols, Vitamin E

What does the Frozen Coolatta Base have in it?

·        Water

·        Coffee (Yay! They do have real coffee in this drink)

·        Coolatta Concentrate made up of sugar, coffee extract, caramel color, artificial flavor, natural flavor, and caramel color

In Short: This drink has a lot of calories to its name. If you drink 2 large cups of this a day it is well over half of your calorie intake for a day. It has more good saturated fat in it than the reformed bad fat in it (Trans fat, unsaturated fat).  It does have real coffee in it.

The most nutritious way to have this drink: Ask for a small frozen coffee drink. Have them hold the whipped cream that goes on top because it already has cream within the drink.

Enjoy your coffee for all it’s worth!

LOW-FAT PARTY CAKE

Here is a great idea that I know several people have used. It is a great idea for those who are or children are allergic to eggs, milk, or something in oil. It is definately a nutritious option for those who want less calories and less fatty cakes. It has worked great for even birthday cakes. It is called the "Low-fat party cake" alternative.

Here's what you do:
  1. Pick up your favorite cake mix at the store and a can of diet soda (you could use coffee instead of the diet soda it might even have less calories).
  2. Pour the cake mix and coffee or diet soda into a bowl.
  3. Mix the ingredients all up.... you have just substitued the eggs, water, and oil with the coffee or diet soda.
  4. Grease a cake pan using extra virgin olive oil.
  5. Preheat the oven to the recommended temperature located on the box.
  6. Pour the cake batter into the greased cake pan while smoothing it out throughout the pan.
  7. Put it in the oven and bake it for the recommended amount of time located on the box.
  8. Enjoy!
Here's another idea: Make them into cupcakes and use the ice cream cones to make them cupcake cone exciting treats!

Enjoy it for all it's worth!

McCafe Frappe Nutrition

McDonalds has a new Frappe out. It is called the McCafe Frappe Chocolate Chip. There are some great commercials for this product where it shows the Frappe really shining, but what really is in this new Frappe. Does it actually use real coffee? Does it have anything in it that you should be suspicious about?
Well, here are the facts. I have done the research using the McDonalds website and have figured out what all it has in it. So, keep on reading… I just think it is funny how they still are just giving the nutritional facts for the small and not the other sizes.
The small (12 fluid oz. cup) has 530 calories, 7 grams of protein, 24 grams of fat (making up 37% of it being fat), 74 grams of carbs, and 140 mg. of sodium. 220 of the 530 calories are calories from fat. It also has 55 mg of cholesterol and 220 mg of calcium.
Here’s what is in it:
·        Ice
·        Chocolate drizzle
·        Caramel drizzle
·        Chocolate chips
·        Whipped cream
·        Either a caramel coffee frappe base or a mocha coffee frappe

Here’s what is in the caramel coffee frappe base:
·         Water
·         Cream
·         Sugar
·         Milk
·         High Fructose Corn Syrup
·         Coffee Extract*
·         Natural and artificial flavors
·         Mono-diglycerides
·         Guar gum
·         Potassium Citrate
·         Disodium phosphate
·         Carrageenan
·         Carob Bean Gum

Here’s What is in the Mocha Coffee Frappe Base:
·        Water
·        Cream
·        Milk
·        Sugar
·        High Fructose Corn Syrup
·        Coffee Extract*
·        Natural and artificial flavors
·        Cocoa
·        Mono-and diglycerides
·        Guar Gum
·        Potassium Citrate
·        Disodium Phosphate
·        Carob Bean Gum
·        Carrageenan
·        Red 40, Yellow 5, and Blue 1

The Possible Allergens for this drink are Milk and Soy Lecithin

In short, McDonalds uses coffee extract and regularly steams their coffee. They might not use as much coffee that is extracted from the bean as their customers would prefer. This means… that there is more “others” in this product than there is actual any kind of coffee and the caffeine is most likely coming from only the chocolate chips.
