McCafe Frappe Nutrition

McDonalds has a new Frappe out. It is called the McCafe Frappe Chocolate Chip. There are some great commercials for this product where it shows the Frappe really shining, but what really is in this new Frappe. Does it actually use real coffee? Does it have anything in it that you should be suspicious about?
          Well, here are the facts. I have done the research using the McDonalds website and have figured out what all it has in it. So, keep on reading… I just think it is funny how they still are just giving the nutritional facts for the small and not the other sizes.
          The small (12 fluid oz. cup) has 530 calories, 7 grams of protein, 24 grams of fat (making up 37% of it being fat), 74 grams of carbs, and 140 mg. of sodium. 220 of the 530 calories are calories from fat. It also has 55 mg of cholesterol and 220 mg of calcium.
Here’s what is in it:
·        Ice
·        Chocolate drizzle
·        Caramel drizzle
·        Chocolate chips
·        Whipped cream
·        Either a caramel coffee frappe base or a mocha coffee frappe

Here’s what is in the caramel coffee frappe base:
·         Water
·         Cream
·         Sugar
·         Milk
·         High Fructose Corn Syrup
·         Coffee Extract*
·         Natural and artificial flavors
·         Mono-diglycerides
·         Guar gum
·         Potassium Citrate
·         Disodium phosphate
·         Carrageenan
·         Carob Bean Gum

Here’s What is in the Mocha Coffee Frappe Base:
·        Water
·        Cream
·        Milk
·        Sugar
·        High Fructose Corn Syrup
·        Coffee Extract*
·        Natural and artificial flavors
·        Cocoa
·        Mono-and diglycerides
·        Guar Gum
·        Potassium Citrate
·        Disodium Phosphate
·        Carob Bean Gum
·        Carrageenan
·        Red 40, Yellow 5, and Blue 1

The Possible Allergens for this drink are Milk and Soy Lecithin

In short, McDonalds uses coffee extract and regularly steams their coffee. They might not use as much coffee that is extracted from the bean as their customers would prefer. This means… that there is more “others” in this product than there is actual any kind of coffee and the caffeine is most likely coming from only the chocolate chips.
